The app a business uses on a phone. Distinct from the consumer WhatsApp app, and a number must be on it before Coexistence can connect it.

The Meta object that holds phone numbers and templates. Sits inside a Business Portfolio. Webhook overrides are applied at this level rather than per number.
- Business Portfolio
The company level container in Meta Business Manager. Holds one or more WhatsApp Business Accounts. A client's number stays in their portfolio, not a provider's.
Meta Tech Provider- Phone number id
Meta's identifier for one connected number. Sending targets this rather than the number itself, and it appears in every inbound webhook payload.

Meta's own onboarding popup. Picks the portfolio, the account and the number, and for Coexistence includes a code scanned in the WhatsApp Business app.
How a number connects- Tech Provider
A Meta status permitting a company to connect other businesses' numbers through its own approved app. Free to obtain, gated on business verification and App Review. Not an endorsement.
What it means- BSPBusiness Solution Provider
A company selling a messaging platform, usually a shared inbox. Overlaps with Tech Provider but describes the product rather than the Meta status.
Coexistence or a BSP- Webhook destinationwebhook override
Where Meta delivers a WhatsApp Business Account's events. Set as an override on an app's subscription, which is why removing a connection uninstalls it.
WhatsApp webhooks- hub.challenge
A value Meta sends in its verification GET. The endpoint must return it as the raw body. Returning JSON instead is the most common reason a webhook never receives anything.
Webhook verification- messages
The webhook field carrying what customers send. Part of the message path, which is what a webhook override routes away from a provider.

The webhook field carrying what a team sends from the WhatsApp Business app. Only exists on Coexistence numbers, and is how software sees a human's replies.

Twenty four hours from the customer's last message, during which free text delivers. Outside it, only an approved template does.
Error 131047- Template
A message submitted to Meta for review in advance. The only thing that delivers outside the customer service window, and on a Coexistence number it can only be sent through the API.
Error 132001- Quality rating
Green, yellow or red, assigned by Meta from how recipients react. Falls before it costs anything, and nothing announces the fall.
Error 131048- Messaging tier
How many unique customers a number may start conversations with per day. Moves in both directions. Distinct from throughput, which is a rate.

Messages per second a number may send. Fixed by Meta on a Coexistence number rather than scaling with quality and tier.

The consumer WhatsApp client signed in elsewhere, as WhatsApp Web does. What unofficial tools automate, what WhatsApp's terms prohibit, and what gets numbers banned.

Waarom zorgt de terminologie voor zoveel problemen?
Omdat verschillende termen hier dingen op verschillende niveaus aanduiden, terwijl ze allemaal hetzelfde niveau lijken te hebben.
Een Business Portfolio bevat een WhatsApp Business Account, dat telefoonnummers bevat, elk met een telefoonnummer-ID. In gesprekken worden ze alle vier het account genoemd. Een zin als controleer of het account werkt kan dus vier verschillende controles betekenen. Hetzelfde geldt voor de twee vensters van vierentwintig uur op dit platform. Die meten niet-gerelateerde zaken en worden voortdurend met elkaar verwisseld.
De andere helft van het probleem is dat Meta en providers verschillende woorden voor hetzelfde gebruiken, en providers het onderling ook niet eens zijn. Deze pagina gebruikt de eigen terminologie van Meta waar die bestaat en zegt duidelijk wanneer een term van ons is.
Welke verschillen zijn in de praktijk echt belangrijk?
Drie, en elk ervan heeft iemand een werkdag gekost.
Het klantenservicevenster en het synchronisatievenster duren allebei vierentwintig uur, maar hebben niets met elkaar te maken. Het ene bepaalt of vrije tekst wordt afgeleverd, gerekend vanaf het laatste bericht van de klant. Het andere bepaalt of de chatgeschiedenis nog kan worden opgehaald, gerekend vanaf de onboarding.
Een gekoppeld apparaat is geen API. Het is de WhatsApp-client voor consumenten die ergens anders is aangemeld. Dat automatiseren onofficiële tools, waardoor telefoonnummers worden geblokkeerd.
En een webhook-bestemming is geen instelling op een telefoonnummer. Het is een override op het abonnement van een app op een account. Daarom verdwijnt deze wanneer een verbinding wordt verwijderd en moet je die bij het opnieuw verbinden terugzetten.
Veelgestelde vragen
Is Coexistence een andere API dan de Cloud API?
Nee. Coexistence is een manier om een telefoonnummer aan te melden bij de Cloud API, terwijl de WhatsApp Business-app erop blijft werken. De endpoints, de berichtindeling en de regels zijn identiek.
Wat is het verschil tussen een Business Portfolio en een WABA?
Het Business Portfolio is de container op bedrijfsniveau in Meta Business Manager. Een WhatsApp Business Account bevindt zich daarin en bevat de telefoonnummers. Eén portfolio kan meerdere WABA's bevatten.
Is een BSP hetzelfde als een Tech Provider?
Ze overlappen, maar beschrijven verschillende dingen. Tech Provider is een Meta-status waarmee een bedrijf via zijn eigen app de telefoonnummers van andere bedrijven mag verbinden. BSP verwijst meestal naar een bedrijf dat een berichtenplatform verkoopt, maar die status zelf wel of niet kan hebben.
Wat heeft MCP met WhatsApp te maken?
Van zichzelf niets. MCP is een protocol waarmee een AI-assistent toegang krijgt tot een tool. Een WhatsApp MCP-server stelt een telefoonnummer als zo'n tool beschikbaar. Hij kan geen berichten ontvangen, maar alleen handelen wanneer daarom wordt gevraagd.
