"Connect your existing WhatsApp Business app" option not showing

The option to connect an existing WhatsApp Business app account appears only when the platform launching Meta's Embedded Signup has enabled it in its code. Without that setting, the popup shows the standard account selection screen and treats the number as a new registration. The business cannot turn it on; the platform has to.

Tech Provider

Meta requires the launching platform to already be a Solution Partner or Tech Provider.

Meta's code when Coexistence is unavailable for a WhatsApp Business account using marketing messages.

Who controls whether the option appears?

The platform that launches the popup. Meta's documentation tells partners to add a featureType property set to whatsapp_business_app_onboarding when launching Embedded Signup. Meta also gives the check: if the account selection screen has been replaced with one offering to connect an existing WhatsApp Business account, the feature is enabled.

So when the business sees the ordinary screens, picking or creating a WhatsApp Business account and entering a number to register, the popup was launched without that setting. Nothing in the business's own Meta settings changes that. The business can only switch to a signup link from a platform that has it enabled.

Why might a platform not offer it?

Meta lists requirements on the platform side before it can be enabled. The platform must already be a Solution Partner or Tech Provider, must know how to use Cloud API, must have a webhook callback that can accept and digest webhooks, and must run Embedded Signup with session logging.

A self-hosted tool, or an integration built on a developer app that is not a Tech Provider, fails the first of those requirements, and in that case the option is not something a configuration change on the business side can bring back. The fix is a platform that has done this work.

The other gap is versions. Embedded Signup v2 and v3 are deprecated on October 15, 2026, and Meta tells partners to move to v4 before then.

What if the option appears but the account cannot be chosen?

That is a different refusal, and it comes from the account, not the platform.

Meta's error reference lists 3441047: the feature is not available for accounts using marketing messages, and the business has to select a different WhatsApp Business account. Code 3441042 means the feature is unavailable for numbers from that region. And an app below version 2.24.17 is refused with a request to update to the latest version.

Each of those comes with its own message in the popup. A missing option with no message at all points back to how the flow was launched.

Common mistakes

  • Searching the business's Meta settings for a Coexistence switch. The option is set by whoever launches the popup.
  • Completing the standard flow anyway. Without the option, Meta treats the number as a new registration, which is not Coexistence.
  • Assuming an older Embedded Signup integration still qualifies. Meta deprecates v2 and v3 on October 15, 2026.
Doing this with EasyCoexistence

EasyCoexistence is an independent Meta Tech Provider and launches Embedded Signup v4 with the existing WhatsApp Business app option enabled, so the business sees the Coexistence screen from the first click.

Frequently asked questions

Can the business enable Coexistence itself?

Not in the popup. The option is set by the platform that launches Embedded Signup, through the featureType setting.

How do I know the option is enabled?

Meta's own test: the account selection screen is replaced by one that offers to connect your existing WhatsApp Business account.

Does the business need a verified portfolio?

Meta's listed requirements for this option are on the launching platform's side, plus app version 2.24.17 or newer for the business.

Is it a regional restriction?

A regional refusal arrives as its own message, code 3441042. A missing option without any message points to how the flow was launched.
