WhatsApp error 131037: 555 number has no approved display name

Error 131037 means the message was sent from a 555 business phone number whose display name has not been approved. Meta's description is "The 555 business phone number used to send the request does not have an approved display name." A 555 number cannot send messages until Meta approves its display name, so the fix is to change it.

What is a 555 business phone number?

A number Meta offers through Embedded Signup to businesses that are eligible for one.

Meta's Embedded Signup overview says business customers can claim up to two 555 numbers. They use the US country calling code +1 with a 555 area code, are verified automatically, and cannot be migrated to another WhatsApp Business Account or used outside the WhatsApp Business Platform.

Otherwise they behave like standard business numbers, subject to pricing rules and quality ratings, with one extra condition that explains this error: a 555 number must have its display name approved before it can send messages.

How do you fix error 131037?

Get the display name approved, which in practice means changing it to one that passes review.

Meta's remedy is to change the 555 number's display name, and it points to its Help Center article on changing a WhatsApp Business display name. In WhatsApp Manager that is under Account tools, Phone numbers, the number's Profile tab, then Edit in the Display name section. Follow Meta's display name guidelines, since a rejected name leaves you where you started.

Meta's display names guide adds that after a name change is approved you have 14 days to re-register the number, and re-registering before approval has no effect.

How do you check whether the display name is approved?

Request the name_status field on the phone number ID.

Meta's display names guide says the verified_name field only holds the name string that goes through review and does not show whether it was approved. The name_status field does. A phone_number_name_update webhook also reports the decision, with decision set to APPROVED or REJECTED.

When a name is rejected, name_status is set to DECLINED. Meta says to review the guidelines and edit the name, or file an appeal through developer support. Until the status changes, every send from that 555 number will keep returning 131037.

Common mistakes

  • Reading verified_name as approval. Meta says only name_status shows whether the name was approved.
  • Re-registering before approval. Meta says it has no effect until the new name is approved.
  • Changing the name repeatedly without reading the guidelines. Meta allows 10 changes per 30 days.
Doing this with EasyCoexistence
